THE RUNAWAY BRIDE
Yulia Yurchevskaya & Yulia Pazukhina
A visual reincarnation of a cult animated archetype within a conceptual studio space. The project explores the phenomenon of the “runaway bride” through the lens of Burtonesque Gothic expressionism. Complex, doll-like theatrical makeup—with hypertrophied eyes and graphic lines—interacts with a textured, intricately designed art background. The white wedding dress and flowing veil contrast with the studio’s textures, turning a story of isolation into an intimate psychological drama.
“In 'The Runaway Bride' collaboration, Yulia Pazukhina and I bring the aesthetic of a Gothic fairy tale to life within a controlled studio environment. We drew inspiration from the classic theatrical makeup of Burton’s iconic bride—those huge, sorrowful eyes and tragic brows—and placed this character against a carefully crafted art background. The textured backdrop and the play of studio lighting serve as her psychological cage and her stage all at once. The soft curves of the body and the geometry of white fabrics emphasize the vulnerability and, simultaneously, the power of this eternal image. It is a cinematic studio performance about the quest for freedom at the intersection of the grotesque and minimalism.”
