NEO-TSAREVNA
Yulia Yurchevskaya & Yulia Pazukhina
An avant-garde Mixed Media performance deconstructing the classic Russian “tsarevna” (princess) archetype. The authors transport the mythological image into the realm of cyber-mysticism and neo-noir. Through the contrast of harsh textures (leather crown, corset, tight bodysuit) and fluid materials (chiffon, fan), they create a figure of a modern shaman, a medium of the neon city. Progressive colored lighting (blue, red spectrums) and the interplay with candles symbolize dialogue with digital and sacred energies, while the mask and veil emphasize lost identity and the search for hidden power.
“In the 'Neo-Tsarevna' collaboration, Yulia Pazukhina and I turn off fairytale filters to lay bare the authentic, wild energy of a water spirit or princess within a neon labyrinth. Our persona is a cyber-siren, a shaman standing at the nexus of worlds. The leather crown, corset, tight bodysuit, and veil are her armor and tools for playing with reality. We deliberately worked with aggressive colored lighting: blue and red beams filtering through the chiffon and refracting in the fan are visualizations of information chaos and inner, pulsating force. Candles and a mask emphasize the ritualistic nature of the moment. It is a manifesto about accepting one’s dark, primal essence, and the strength that is born on the boundary between tradition and futurism.”
